Birthday Rings

Birthdays are a very special occasion at our school. Birthday rings are held for the birthday child. The birthday child will receive a special booklet of drawings done by each child in the class and a special birthday crown.

Spiritual Development

St. Catherine’s encourages the Christian way of life through daily morning prayer, grace, an end of day prayer, Bible stories and the singing of Bible songs.

Social Development

The nursery school environment provides the best possible place for social development to take place. Children learn to share and co-operate with their peers. They also learn to communicate their needs, wants and desires and to interact with staff and other adults.

Intellectual Development

The children are taught facts and knowledge through theme discussions, self-discovery, pictures, models, examples and educational shows.

Emotional Development

Positive self-esteem is one of the keys to healthy emotional development. Your child is encouraged to express themselves and to develop their God-given talents. Praise, encouragement and love, all contribute to your child’s image of themselves. The structure and routine of the school day also provides a strong sense of security for the child.

Physical Development

A focus on physical co-ordination in emphasized by involving both large and small motor skills, climbing and balancing apparatus, tricycles and scooters, lacing, threading, weaving, play-dough, cutting, colouring and construction toys.

Optometry Assessments

Our Grade R class undergoes a complimentary optometry assessment in August, conducted by our local optometrist, Dr. Venter.

Admissions for 2025 are now open!

We’re just as excited as you are and we can’t wait to meet your little one as they begin their educational journey in 2025 with us!

We're processing admissions for young learners age 2 - 6 yrs

We are always happy to talk to parents and for them to have a look around the school and its many amenities offered for your child.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day

Your little ones are more attentive in class if they have had a nutritious meal to start off their day.

Our Classes

The Tiger Class (2 – 3 year old’s)

Welcome to the Tiger Class, lead by Mrs. Rita de Andrade (aka. Mrs. D) and assisted by Ms. Sthembi (their loving assistant)

Mrs. de Andrade has been with St. Cath’s since 2015 & Ms. Sthembi since 2019.

Your child is learning at an extremely rapid rate at this age. As the kids of this class grow and develop, Mrs. D adapts the curriculum as well as their environment to meet both their needs and interests.

The Teddy Class (3 – 4 year old’s)

Welcome to the Teddy Class, lead by Mrs. Cathy McLeroth (aka. Mrs. Mac) and assisted by Ms. Stephi (their loving assistant)

Mrs. McLeroth has been with St. Cath’s since 2000 & Ms. Stephi since 2014.

At this age, your child is full of wonder. They spend a great deal of their time watching, observing and imitating.

Their imaginations are working constantly. It is at this important stage that we focus on perfecting their fine motor skills.

The Squirrel Class (4 – 5 year old’s)

Welcome to the Squirrel Class, lead by Mrs. Sue Ramos – Our Principal (aka. Mrs. Ramos) and assisted by Ms. Lindi (their loving assistant)

Mrs. Ramos has been with St. Cath’s since 1995 & Ms. Lindi since 2017.

During your child’s year spent in the Squirrel Class they will practice how to write their name. It’s a very exciting time in your little ones development and soon you’ll start to see their name written all over their artwork.

We also work on our ABCs, using letters and drawings to describe things like people, places, experiences, and feelings.

The Bunny Class (5 – 6 year old’s) – Grade R

Welcome to the Bunny Class, lead by Mrs. Kelly Coates (aka. Mrs. Coates) and assisted by Ms. Thoko (their loving assistant)

Mrs. Coates has been with St. Cath’s since 2014 & Ms. Thoko since 2015.

The Bunny Class is your child’s final hop before they enter ‘big’ school. Grade R is a very important year to assist in preparing your child for entering primary school in Grade 1.

It is in this year that our learners move from mostly an unstructured style of learning to structured learning, where they learn to sit quietly and have structured lessons with a formal curriculum for the first time.

We delve deeper covering aspects such as numbers, operations and relationships; patterns, functions and algebra; space and shape (geometry); measurement; and data handling.
